    The CNES delegation to the maritime economy convention in Nice, led by its Chairman & CEO Philippe Baptiste, was welcomed to the Monaco Oceanographic Museum by its Director, Robert Calcagno, Tuesday 14 September. After a guided tour and discussions centred on future areas for cooperation, Philippe Baptiste and Robert Calcagno signed a partnership agreement aimed at gaining new insights into the oceans through space technologies, in the presence of His Excellency Laurent Stefanini, France’s Ambassador to Monaco.

  4. General Philippe Steininger succeeds General Henry de Roquefeuil as Military Advisor to CNES President

    After nine years as Military Advisor to CNES’s President and coordinator of the agency’s Defence Team, Lieutenant General (FAF Ret.) Henry de Roquefeuil is leaving his post and will be succeeded by Lieutenant General (FAF Ret.) Philippe Steininger.

  15. CNES SCIENCE PROGRAMMES COMMITTEE MEETS

    Thursday 3 December, CNES’s Science Programmes Committee (CPS) met remotely by videoconference in strict accordance with social distancing measures. The CPS advises the CNES Board of Directors on matters relating to space science research and helps it to shape the science priorities of the agency’s programmes.

  16. ESA RELEASES FIRST IMAGES FROM SOLAR ORBITER

    The European Space Agency (ESA) has released the first images from its Solar Orbiter spacecraft, which completed its commissioning phase in mid-June and made its first close approach to the Sun. Shortly thereafter, the European and U.S. science teams behind the mission’s ten instruments were able to test the entire instrument suite in concert for the first time.

    Friday 21 February, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, General Philippe Lavigne, Air Force Chief of Staff, Thierry Angel, Deputy Head, Forces, of the French defence procurement agency DGA, and General Michel Friedling, Chief of Space Command, welcomed the Minister of Armed Forces Florence Parly to the Toulouse Space Centre (CST). Ever since its inception in 1961, CNES has worked closely with the Ministry for Armed Forces—one of its overseeing ministries with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation—and is today a vital cog in the conduct of military space programmes, execution of space operations and planning for the future.

He took advantage of his visit to meet Mike Gold, Associate Administrator for NASA's Office of International and Interagency Relations, and Scott Pace, Executive Secretary of the National Space Council.
